MANILA– Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals notched its second straight win in the NCAA Season 95 men’s basketball, 80-76, over the University of Perpetual Help Altas yesterday at the San Juan Arena.

Jethro Mendoza posted career-high 22 points, including five three-point conversions, while Kriss Gurtiza and JP Maguliano added 13 and 11 markers, respectively.

The Generals now has a 3-11 win-loss slate.

“I told them the reason we won the last time out was we stuck with our game plan,” said Generals head coach Oliver Bunyi. “We cannot win by talent and skill. We have to stay with the team concept.”

The Generals started flat and were down by as much as 14 points in the opening quarter before leaning on Allan Martin, Gurtiza and Maguliano to trim the deficit to 35-39 at the half.

The game was tight for both teams in the third period, with the Generals getting contributions from Adrian de Guzman and Renz Gonzales to trim the deficit to 54-55.

The Altas opened the fourth with a 7-0 blast for a 62-54 edge. EAC, however, managed to turn things around midway in the quarter behind Mendoza and Marwin Taywan for a 75-69 edge.

Baskets from Taywan and JP Luciano and free throws by Maguliano sealed the win for the Generals.

Rey Peralta top-scored with 21 points, Ilonggo Edgar Charcos had double-double 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Altas slumped to 3-10 win-loss record./PN
