
MANILA – College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers fended off the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers for a 25-20, 25-19, 25-20 sweep in the NCAA Season 100 women’s volleyball tournament at the San Beda University Gym in Manila.
Clydel Mae Catarig stepped up with 14 points, all coming from attacks, to lead the defending champions Lady Blazers, which notched its second victory in as many games.
Wielyn Estoque also made her presence felt with 10 points, while Chenie Basarte concluded the match with 14 excellent sets for the Lady Blazers.
With the score tied at 20-all in the third set, the Lady Blazers relied on timely connections from Basarte and Jessa Dorog and errors from the Lady Bombers to close the match in straight sets.
Nicole Deala led the Lady Bombers with nine points as JRU remained winless in three matches.
Meanwhile, University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas prevailed over the Lyceum of the Philippines Lady Pirates in straight sets, 25-22, 25-21, 25-17, to stay undefeated.
Winnie Bedaña delivered 17 points through 15 attacks and two blocks, earning her the Player of the Game honors for the Lady Altas, who secured their third consecutive victory in as many matches.
“Siguro mas makikita niyo na mas eager na kaming manalo ngayong season, gusto talaga naming manalo,” Bedaña said in a post-game interview.
“Ang mindset lang namin is kailangan naming pantunayan, hindi lang para sa mga nanonood, kundi para din sa sarili namin na hindi kami pangsimula lang,” she added.
The Lady Pirates, on the other hand, experienced their second consecutive defeat, bringing their record to 1-2./PN
