MANILA – College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers recovered from a flat start to score a 17-25, 25-18, 28-22, 25-22 victory over San Beda University Lady Red Spikers in the NCAA Season 95 women’s volleyball at the San Juan Arena.

Rookie Gayle Pascual top-scored with 20 points, including 16 attacks, while Diane Ventura chipped in 14 markers on nine spikes, three blocks, and two service aces.

The Lady Blazers had a flat start in the opening set. It was down 8-1 before eventually losing the set despite its veteran players going all-out against the Lady Red Spikers.

Pascual and Ventera then took over in the succeeding sets. The Lady Blazers dominated the Lady Red Spikers for early advantage before Jewel Lai and Mycah Go put on the finishing touches for a 5-0 slate and a sure seat in the Final Four.

“Siguro nagre-relax kami, kampante. Hanggang sa nahabol na paisa-isa, hindi namin napansin ‘yung score,” Lai said. “Sabi lang ni coach, ‘Push lang. Hindi pa tapos ‘yung game kaya walang titigil’.”

Meanwhile, Colegio de San Juan de Letran Lady Knights boosted its Final Four bid following a 26-28, 27-25, 16-25, 25-19, 16-14 escape over the Lyceum of the Philippines Lady Pirates.

Chamberlaine Cunada uncorked 28 points, built on 24 attacks, three blocks and a service ace, as the Lady Knights tied the Lady Red Spikers at fourth place in the standings with 3-2 card./PN
