ILOILO City – Nearly a thousand Ilonggo job hunters showed up at the Labor Day job fair yesterday at the Atria Activity Center in Mandurriao district.
The number of companies that participated also doubled, according to Amy Judicpa, information officer of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 6.
These companies made available 19,966 employment opportunities, she added.
As of 3 p.m. yesterday the total number of registered applicants climbed to 935.
Thirty-seven job applicants were hired on the spot by local companies. The others would be subjected to more vetting.
A total of 86 companies (71 local and 15 overseas recruitment agencies) participated in the job fair that started early at 7 a.m.
The top vacancies for local employment were for the following: customer service representatives, billing and collection representatives, teachers, customer service associates, travel associates, technical support associates, nurses, salesmen, drivers, and supervisors.
On the other hand, the top vacancies for overseas employment were for household service workers, service crew, delivery men, barista, labor cleaners, nurses, installer assistants, drivers for heavy equipment, operator CNC, and waiters.
Judicpa said 12 applicants were referred to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority for skills training while one was referred for livelihood assistance.
There were 21 referrals to the Department of Trade and Industry for business opportunities because yesterday’s activity also included a business fair adopting the concept of “trabaho, negosyo, kabuhayan.”/PN
