ILOILO City – The number of Western Visayans now fully vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is almost five million, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

The five million mark may soon be achieved and even exceeded. DOH Region 6 data showed that 204,174 Western Visayans are poised to receive their second COVID-19 vaccine dose.

The over four million fully vaccinated residents included the following:

* 133,044 – A1 Group (workers in frontline services)

* 3,944 – aged five to 11 years old with comorbidities)

* 90,749 – rest of five to 11 years old with no comorbidities

DOH stressed the importance of vaccination. It warned of a possible spike in COVID-19 cases in the middle of May if people continue to disregard health protocols.

The compliance to minimum public health standards, such as social distancing and proper wearing of face masks, declined by seven percent nationwide in March and April, according to the sub-Technical Working Group on Data Analytics (sTWG DA) and the Feasibility Analysis of Syndromic Surveillance./PN
