KALIBO, Aklan – Nearly 80 percent of Aklan’s population are now fully vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Provincial Health Office said.
The vaccine rollout is continuing, with 78 percent or 389,000 of Aklanons having completed their vaccination. To date, 83 percent of people aged 60 and older also have taken vaccine shots.
Among people aged between 12 to 17, 83.57 percent are considered fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Only 15.7 percent of children in the five to 11 years old age group had received their two-dose vaccines.
Just 11.23 percent or 55,818 vaccinated residents already received COVID-19 vaccine boosters.
The province has administered second COVID-19 vaccine booster doses on April 27 to immuno-compromised population ages 18 years old and older.
Provincial Health Officer I Dr. Cornelio Cuachon Jr. said people should continue wearing face coverings or masks and follow the minimum health protocols, even with eased restrictions.
Alert Level 1 is also extended in the province of Aklan with the declining new infections in recent weeks.
Aklan recorded 15,213 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began with 14,845 recoveries.
There are three active cases reported as of April 30. Two patients from Kalibo and Nabas towns were isolated in their homes and a 30-year old female patient from Banga was admitted in the hospital./PN
