ILOILO – Joint operatives of the Iloilo Maritime Police Station and Passi City Police Station and the Bureau of Customs confiscated around P400,000 worth of fake cigarettes in Barangay Mantulang, Passi City here.
They also arrested two suspects identified as Norodin Amerol, 33, and a resident of Barangay San Fernando, San Jose, Antique, and Esmaiting Macasindel, 30, of Barangay Cadayonan, Poona Piagapo, Lanao del Norte during an operation carried out on Friday night, August 9.
The suspects were detained at the Passi City Police Station, facing charges for violation of Republic Act 8293, or the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines.
According to Colonel Ervin Glenn Provido, chief of the Regional Maritime Unit 6, the several boxes of fake cigarettes were from the southern part of the country./PN
