ILOILO CITY – The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) launched a caravan here on the updated Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2017-2022 which is designed to be responsive to the health pandemic, according to its official in Western Visayas (Region 6).
On Wednesday, NEDA-6 officer-in-charge regional director Meylene Rosales said the purpose of the activity was to rally the support of Filipinos to the plan.
“Filipinos should claim ownership of the plan. Each of us has a role to play because as always we want to ensure a people-centered and inclusive development,” she added.
The 2017-2022 plan was formulated in line with the socio-economic agenda of President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration.
It holds the country’s commitments to sustainable development goals and other collective long-term vision dubbed as “Ambisyon Natin 2040: Matatag, Maginhawa at Panatag na Buhay para sa Lahat by 2040.”
The PDP in 20 chapters contains five major programs aimed at building “the resilience of individual, families, business, government, and society under the new normal.”
These include health system improvement, food security, learning continuity, digital transformation, and regional development through the Balik Probinsya Bagong Pag-asa program.
“Adjustments were made on the framework of the updated plan to integrate strategies in responding to the new normal,” said Rosales.
Meanwhile, the Western Visayas leg highlighted four thematic sections to include expanding economic opportunities in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries in ensuring food security; reaching for the demographic dividend; vigorously advancing science and technology innovation; and ensuring ecological integrity, clean and healthy environment.(PNA)
