BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental and Northern Territories, Australia will create a “digital bridge” to connect their two local governments.
Provincial administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, who was with the delegation of Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson during a one-week official visit in Darwin, Australia, said the governor went to visit the city to check on the condition of the scholars the province sent to study and work there.
“We found out they are doing well and highly regarded in the community and schools. They also do volunteer work in various groups, and they are well adapted in Darwin,” Diaz said.
He also said there are big opportunities for Negrosanons, adding that future generations can dream bigger and go to Australia, and the world will be available to them.
Diaz further added that the province will make sure that they are supported, like with their tuition fees.
There are already 10 scholars there from two batches, and next year the provincial government will send 15 additional students.
Diaz said the processing and screening for qualification purposes will be improved by the provincial government.
Meanwhile, many of the Negrosanons in Australia are working in restaurants and teaching and healthcare facilities.
“You will be amazed by their salaries there. During weekdays they get A$24 an hour, on Saturdays they get paid at A$42 an hour and on Sundays A$64 an hour,” Diaz said.
Their income also depended on their performance, he added./PN
