NegOcc begins WVRAA 2024 preps

BACOLOD City – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has begun its preparations for the hosting of the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) Meet 2024 in April.

Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said they are now preparing the facilities where the sport events could be held.

The two main venues are the Panaad Park and Stadium and the Paglaum Sports Complex.

So far, renovations at the Panaad Park are still ongoing as well as the construction work on the covered court.

The local government unit pavilions that are normally used during the Panaad sa Negros Festival are also being eyed to be used during the regional sports meet.

Held in Aklan province, last year’s WVRAA Meet was composed of 24 sports events for the secondary and 15 for the elementary level.

Sports events include archery, arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, basketball 3×3, basketball elementary and secondary, billiard, boxing, chess, dance sport, football, futsal, gymnastics, paragames, goalball, bocce, pencak silat, sepak takraw elementary and secondary, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwando, tennis elementary and secondary, volleyball elementary boys and girls, volleyball secondary boys and girls, wrestling, and wushu.

Iloilo was the overall champion in WVRAA 2023, followed by Negros Occidental as first runner-up and Aklan as second runner-up. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
