BACOLOD City – The provincial government of Negros Occidental has requested the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) for additional police personnel at Bacolod City’s BREDCO and Banago ports to prevent the entry of African Swine Fever (ASF).
According to provincial administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, the NOCPPO police will augment the personnel from the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
He said the provincial government is continuously intensifying its campaign against the entry of ASF into the province.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson and Mayor Albee Benitez of Bacolod City earlier issued Joint Executive No. 1 creating the Joint African Swine Fever Task Force to prevent the entry into Bacolod City and Negros Occidental of live pigs, boar semen, pork and pork products from places affected with ASF.
The taskforce has already seized P448,125 worth of pork products in various ports in Bacolod City and the province.
The hog industry in Negros Occidental, the top backyard swine producer in the country, is worth P6 billion./PN
