BACOLOD City – The provincial government of Negros Occidental reemphasized its commitment to promote sustainable tourism as it celebrated the 23rd Provincial Tourism Week.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson, during the opening program at the Ayala Malls Capitol Central Activity Center, said sustainable tourism initiatives such as reducing waste, promoting the efficient use of resources, and using local produce and materials help reduce negative environmental impacts.
“It means investing in tourism activities that protect natural resources, promote the well-being of local communities, and advocate for sustainable practices such as reduced energy consumption, reduced water usage, and the use of renewable energy sources,” Lacson said.
Slated from Sept. 16 to 23, this year’s celebration is themed “Tourism and Green Investments.”
The annual event recognizes the importance of the tourism and travel sectors and their impact on local communities. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
