BACOLOD City – The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO) is now focused on lawless activities usually associated with the holiday season.
NOCPPO chief Police Colonel Romeo Baleros said they are on the lookout for street criminals and deny them the opportunity to strike through maximum police visibility.
Among these street criminals are pickpockets, snatchers and burglars.
“The entire police force has been placed on red alert status and police chiefs from various cities and municipalities will enhance their anti-crime patrols, especially in crowded areas,” said Baleros.
The province’s top cop added that they are now finalizing the security plan which will be rolled out by Dec. 15 – a day before the first day of the nine-day misa de gallo or pre-dawn mass.
Baleros also said they are anticipating possible attacks from the New People’s Army (NPA) especially since the insurgents will celebrate the founding anniversary of the Communist Party of the Philippines this month.
He said police chiefs should adopt a tight defensive posture, be more vigilant and coordinate with other friendly forces.
“Yes we are always expecting for enemy assaults because of the series of encounters in Himamaylan and Isabela, plus the arrest of NPA supporters in Bacolod City last month,” he said./PN
