BACOLOD City – The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation in Negros Occidental is “not alarming”, according to Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz.
This, however, must not result in the public getting complacent, he stressed.
Negrenses must remain cautious as COVID-19 cases are rising in many parts of the country, said Diaz.
The provincial government has confirmed 11 cases confined at the Cadiz District Hospital, the province’s primary COVID facility.
Negros Occidental remains under COVID-19 pandemic Alert Level 2. This is mainly due to its number of still unvaccinated population, according to the national government’s Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
Diaz reiterated his appeal to those yet to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to get their shots, and for those already vaccinated to avail themselves of booster shoots for additional protection.
Almost all of the current severe COVID-19 cases in the province are unvaccinated, he pointed out.
As of April 27, 2023, the Provincial Incident Management Team of Negros Occidental reported 81 active COVID-19 cases, 14 of which are new cases. There are no new fatalities.
Negros Occidental’s total confirmed cases since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020 have now reached 44,873 with recoveries at 42,717.
Total COVID-19 deaths in the province since 2020, meanwhile, reached 2,074./PN
