BACOLOD City – The robust economy in Negros Occidental spurred the creation of more businesses in the province last year, according to the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Out of the 10,607 business registrations in 2017, a total of 9,599 were new registrations while only 1,008 were renewals.

In 2016, there were 7,562 business registrations; 6,762 were new registrations while 764 were renewals.

DTI records showed that business registration in the province increased 41 percent from 2016 to 2017.

Senior trade and industry development specialist Engiemar Tupas said the local economy led to the creation of more enterprises and job opportunities in Negros Occidental.

“The economy of Negros Occidental is really doing good as manifested in the many developments, including the construction boom,” Tupas added.

He also attributed the increase in the number of enterprises to the establishment of Negosyo Centers in the province.

Negosyo Centers provide business name registration services.

In December last year, the DTI opened the sixteenth Negosyo Center in Negros Occidental. (PNA/PN)
