BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson is eyeing to ease the curfew hours. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the province continue to drop.

Based on the data (as of May 19) released by the Provincial Incident Management Team (PIMT), the province had 1,330 active COVID-19 cases.

Lacson said there’s still a need for vigilance and strict observance of minimum health protocols.

Only when the number of active cases drop to 1,000 would they  consider lowering the current curfew hours from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.
“We will do it slowly, but it will still depend on the numbers,” Lacson said.

As for tourism establishments such as resorts, Lacson said, he would leave the decision to the local chief executives if they will allow reopening.

However, those who are still finding it difficult to control the cases should remain closed until their situation improves.
Resorts and beaches that will be allowed to reopen are also advised to follow the recommended 30 percent capacity, adding the local government units should remain cautious./PN
