BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental governor Eugenio Jose Lacson remains hopeful about the Panay-Guimaras-Negros (PGN) bridge and its positive impact on the whole region.

Lacson said recent developments with the PGN bridge are promising.

“Connecting islands brings positive results,” Lacson said.

The governor also said that with the mega bridge making the flow of people, goods and services easier between Negros, Panay and Guimaras, it is best for Negros to have its own region composed of three provinces.

Meanwhile, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Region 6 said yesterday, Feb. 20, that the detailed engineering design (DED) of the project had been bid out.

The DED started in January and will be completed after 18 months, NEDA-6 added. It includes program of work, project cost estimate, and the final bridge design.

Once finalized, the proposal will be presented to the Investment Coordination Committee (ICC) and NEDA Board for review and approval.

The PGN bridge is expected to cost around P187.53 billion and is targeted to be completed by 2030.

The mega bridge involves the construction of a 32.47-kilometer, four-lane, two-sea-crossing bridges, including connecting roads and interchanges, that will connect the islands of Panay, Guimaras and Negros./PN
