BACOLOD City – Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Lacson, together with provincial officials, led the commemoration of the 125th Philippine Independence Day at the provincial capitol grounds yesterday morning.

He emphasized the importance of remembering national heroes who fought for the freedom of the Philippines.

According to the governor, the 12th of June is not just a date on the calendar but a reminder to Filipinos of their responsibility to preserve the nation’s freedom.

Various agencies also attended the event, including the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, the 303rd Infantry Brigade of the Philippine Army, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and the Philippine Coast Guard, along with the Department of Education Division of Negros Occidental, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts of the Philippines.

The Philippine Air Force flew two helicopters and showered the capitol grounds with colored confetti resembling the Philippine flag.

The provincial government also distributed over P900,000 through the Barangay Insurance Program, benefiting 17 barangay officials, employees, and tanods./PN
