BACOLOD City – After winning the top honors in the 2016 Pearl Awards, tourism stakeholders in Negros Occidental hope that other local government units can learn from its own strategies and initiatives.
“As our best practices are being recognized, we are expecting other municipalities, cities and provinces in the country to visit Negros Occidental and learn from our strategies and initiatives,” Cristine Mansinares, provincial supervising tourism operations officer, said.
Negros Occidental has recently been named Hall of Fame awardee for Best Tourism-Oriented Local Government Unit (LGU) Province Category after winning the award for three consecutive years.
The recognition was given to the province during the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines (ATOP) 2016 Pearl Awards held at Royce Hotel and Casino in Clark, Pampanga.
Negros Occidental was also given the Hall of Fame award for bagging the Best Tourism Week Celebration (Province Category) and while Panaad sa Negros Festival was named Grand Winner for the Best Tourism Event in Festival Category.
Sagay City’s “Adlaw sang Suba” and Sipalay City’s Kite Festival won first runner-up and second runner-up, respectively, for the Best Tourism Event-Sports, Adventure, Wellness (City Category) while the Municipality of Pulupandan’s “Dolphin Watching” was the grand champion in the Municipal Category.
Sagay City was named grand winner in the Best Tourism Week Celebration (City Category) while Sipalay City was first runner-up. Silay City’s Heritage Conservation Project won first runner-up in the Heritage Convention Category. (PNA)
