BACOLOD City – Local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental received a total of 22,000 family food packs from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office to aid their constituents affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) brought by the coronavirus disease 2019.
PSWDO chief Merle Garcia said each food aid contained five to six kilograms of rice and two to four cans of sardines.
Among the LGUs in this province that
have received the food packs are the towns of Cauayan, Candoni, La Castellana,
Isabela, and Moises Padilla. More municipalities will receive the food packs in
the coming days, Garcia added.
Travel restrictions imposed during ECQ has been a challenge to some social
workers in transporting the food packs from border to border.
In the boundary of La Carlota City and La Castellana town, the food packs from
the delivery truck of the latter needed to be reloaded in the truck of the
former to comply with restrictions of the ECQ.
Since last weekend, another wave of food
packs, which includes 1,000 sacks of rice, is being prepared at the PSWDO here
and assisted by 15 Philippine Air Force personnel.
Each food aid contains 5 kilograms of rice and five cans of sardines. The
number of the food packs could reach up to 7,000 after the packaging is over.
They are also set for distribution to various municipalities in this province.(With a report from PIA/PN)
