NegOcc PDMPD on alert for holidays

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – The Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) of Negros Occidental has been placed on alert for the holiday season.

PDMPD head, Dr. Zeaphard Caelian, said they are particularly monitoring the low pressure area (LPA) southeast of the Visayas.

Caelian said the LPA could develop into a tropical depression.

The forecast tracks indicate that the LPA would likely curve north towards the Samar and Leyte areas, but Caelian still advised local disaster risk reduction and management offices in the province to be on the lookout for flash floods.

As for the holiday season, Caelian said they will initiate “Oplan: Iwas Paputok” and remind Negrenses to be careful when using fireworks, or even discourage them.

“As governor [Eugenio Jose Lacson] reminds us always, let us pray for the safety of the province, but still be proactive in our preparedness,” Caelian added./PN
