BACOLOD City – Power Watch Negros Advocates (PWNA) and the Utilities Consumers Advocates for Reform (UCARE) signed a “covenant of solidarity” supporting the proposed joint venture agreement (JVA) between Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) and Ignite Power.

The signing was done yesterday, May 26, at the Negros Press Club Building here.

“Dali-on nila…the longer this takes to be realized, the longer we, consumers, suffer,” Wennie Sancho, secretary general of PWNA, urged Ceneco and Ignite Power.

He also said he would be present at the June 5 JVA presentation of Ignite Power to the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s committee on energy.

The “covenant of solidarity” deemed the JVA a necessity, citing the recent massive power blackout in Western Visayas.

“There is an urgent call for the implementation of the JVA,” part of the covenant read.

PWNA and UCARE pledged to campaign with consumers to ratify the JVA in a referendum.

There has been a persistent public outcry against the dismal failure of Ceneco to provide affordable, reliable and efficient power supply, they noted.

Ignite Power is a sister company of MORE Electric and Power Corporation (MORE

Power), the sole power distributor in Iloilo City.

According to Iloilo City’s Mayor Jerry Treñas Bacolodnons and Negrosanons should grab the opportunity to have better electricity, vouching for MORE Power as a reliable power distributor.

Ceneco has more than 214,000 member-consumers in its franchise areas of Bacolod City, Bago City, Talisay City, and Silay City, and the Negros Occidental municipalities of Murcia and Don Salvador Benedicto.

“Very happy and satisfied customer gid ako (of MORE Power),” Mayor Treñas told members of the Bacolod media who visited his office recently.

With MORE Power, Iloilo City now has a stable power supply, reliable electricity distribution and lower rates, stressed Treñas./PN
