BACOLOD City – The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) of Negros Occidental has begun prepositioning relief supplies in preparation for Super Typhoon “Mawar.”
The super typhoon is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) late Friday or Saturday morning, May 27, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Once it enters the PAR, it will be named “Betty.”
PSWDO officer-in-charge Gerla Sario said they requested for additional relief supplies from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Region 6.
Earlier, local government units convened their respective disaster risk reduction management offices to review their Pre-Disaster Readiness Assessment Emergency Preparedness.
Village officials were likewise advised to prepare their response teams, evacuation centers, transportation, and logistics.
As of 3 p.m. yesterday, Super Typhoon “Mawar” was forecasted to accelerate tracking generally west northwestward in the next 12 hours before turning westward.
It is expected to further strengthen while traversing the country’s waters and might enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat, bringing rains over the western parts of Luzon and Visayas beginning Sunday or Monday./PN
