NegOcc prov’l sports meet takes off amid high heat index

BACOLOD City – The highly anticipated Negros Occidental Provincial Athletic Association Meet commenced yesterday, April 1, at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City.

Romeo Sison, provincial schools division sports officer, said the event started at 4:30 p.m., with athletes and delegation members being advised to take extra measures against the scorching heat.

As of the April 1 forecast of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration, Negros Occidental experienced a 41-degree Celsius heat index. 

To ensure the safety and well-being of the participants, precautionary measures have been in place for outdoor games, such as starting activities early in the morning.

Sison estimated 6,500 participants from the 13 participating delegations and schools division offices joined the event.
