BACOLOD City – Due to inclement weather last week in Negros Occidental, damage to livestock reached P245,000; it also affected 12 villages from six cities and municipalities in the province’s third and fourth districts.
Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) officer-in-charge, Dr. Placeda Lemana, said they previously advised livestock raisers to take precautionary measures because poor weather conditions could affect their livestock.
She said the province has several animal health centers operating in every district and they could give supplements and technical advice to livestock raisers.
Lemana added each village in the province also has a trained para-veterinarian whom the livestock raisers could tap for assistance.
Para-veterinarians are also the ones monitoring the situation in the villages they are assigned to and they report directly to the PVO for any damages.
Earlier on Wednesday, Jan. 18, the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA) reported crop damages in the province at P30.4 million.
Damage to rice fields was estimated at P29 million while high-value commercial crop (HVCC) damage was at P553,000.
Corn field damage was estimated at P136,000.
Bago City recorded the highest amount of damage in the province valued at P13.3 million, followed by Valladolid town at P5.5 million./PN
