BACOLOD City – The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) of Negros Occidental has intensified its information campaign to livestock raisers on how they could take better care of their animals amid the ongoing dry spell attributed to the El Niño phenomenon.
Dr. Placeda Lemana, PVO head, said thus far they have not recorded any livestock mortalities, however they continue to remind raisers on the dangers of exposing their livestock to high temperatures.
Lemana again reminded raisers that they should provide proper ventilation and hydration to their livestock.
She also recommended providing vitamin supplements to livestock, as well as deworming and vaccination.
Veterinarians in the province were also advised to continue their information caravan.
Previously, Lemana warned of heat-related illnesses among livestock such as pneumonia, flu and issues such as stunted growth.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecasts that Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, will face drought conditions until May this year. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
