BACOLOD City – Animal raisers and organic producers who participated in the recently concluded 23rd Agrilink earned a total of P364,000 during the 3-day event held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
The sales report collated as of Oct. 12 by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) showed that livestock and poultry animal raisers had total earnings of P219,000 while sellers of organic products had an income of P145,00.
The top earner amounting to P180,000 was Manny Delleva of the MD Yuri Integrated Farm in Talisay City, who sold 14 heads of gamefowl.
The Negros Occidental provincial government earned about P40,000 from selling various animals raised at the Negros First Ranch in Barangay Sta. Rosa, Murcia.
Sold were nine heads of pekin ducks at P9,000; one head of ewe at P15,000; and one head of ram at P15,000.
The report added that all 25 heads of livestock and poultry animals displayed at the province’s booth outside the World Trade Center were sold out.
Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena said the buyers were from various parts of the country, including the provinces of Quezon, Leyte, Davao, Ilocos and Batangas.
He added that they received about 200 buyers per day, mostly from farmers and animal breeders of different provinces in Luzon and Mindanao.
Decena said a number of visitors were also interested in buying pekin ducks and sheep, and are even willing to shoulder the shipping costs.
Potential buyers also showed interest in visiting the province’s farms to know more of its programs and learn the techniques on sheep and pekin duck production.
“Through this year’s Agrilink, we have successfully showcased the province’s development efforts in animal production as an industry and source of livelihood for farmer-raisers,” Decena said.
He added that Negros Occidental has also made new contacts and shared insights on production and marketing of lamb with other sheep raisers in the country.
This year’s Agrilink focused on Negros Occidental with the theme “Negros, a Model of Agribusiness Resiliency.”
Agrilink, one of the biggest and most influential agricultural trade shows in the country, is initiated by the Foundation for Resource Linkage and Development supported by the Department of Agriculture. (PNA)
