BACOLOD City – Residents of Mabinay town in Negros Oriental can now enter Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental. The city has opened its border in Barangay Tagukon.

Kabankalan City mayor Pedro Zayco Jr. directed border personnel to implement the protocols issued by the provincial government.

In Executive Order 21-12, Negros Occidental’s Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson laid down the guidelines on the entry of Mabinay residents to Kabankalan in the central portion of southern Negros.

Entry shall be limited to residents of Mabinay only. Upon entry, they must present a valid government identification card.

Mabinay residents shall strictly enter the city only through private vehicles.

“We will give them just 12 hours to stay within Kabankalan. The reason is really for commerce, and sometimes for medical reasons,” Lacson said.

On Feb. 26, Zayco and Mabinay mayor Joe Terry Uy of Negros Oriental met at city hall to discuss new border arrangements.

Lacson said residents of Mabinay Kabankalan since it is closer than Bais, the nearest city in their province.

Lacson said he does not think that Mabinay residents, after reaching Kabankalan, would eventually travel to Bacolod City, the capital of Negros Occidental, because the municipality itself has strict quarantine protocols for travelers. (With report from PNA/PN)
