BACOLOD City – Despite the ongoing hog mortalities, Negros Occidental shipped out 4,322 pigs to Luzon and 1,454 to other parts of Visayas from June 1 to 16, according to Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz.
This is despite 17 of the 31 local government units being affected by hog mortalities. These are: Manapla, Cadiz, Silay, E.B. Magalona, Talisay, Murcia, San Enrique, Valladolid, Pulupandan, Pontevedra, Bago, La Carlota, Hinigaran, Binalbagan, Himamaylan, Ilog and Kabankalan.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said the province can still sell pigs to other areas, especially since the daily swine mortalities in the province are now declining.
Last week, Diaz said the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) noticed a decline in hog mortalities.
There were 140 to 150 swine deaths recorded in the past few days, lower than the over 400 deaths recorded weeks ago.
Hog deaths in Negros Occidental still took a hit with P157 million worth of damages affecting 142 barangays across the province./PN
