BACOLOD City – The northern municipality of Toboso, Negros Occidental declared the Communist Party of the Philippines and its armed wing New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) as persona non-grata.
The declaration was stated in Resolution No. 044, Series of 2019 passed by the Municipal Council last week.
A ceremonial signing of the resolution was held during the town’s 71st Charter Day celebration and oath-taking ceremony of its officials at the Toboso Auditorium on Monday.
Lieutenant Colonel Emelito Thaddeus Logan, commanding officer of 79th Infantry Battalion (79IB) based in Sagay City, Negros Occidental, commended the municipality for the action.
“The communist terrorist group destroys the peace, development and the lives of people in the area,” said Logan.
The Municipal Council passed the resolution after the memorandum from the provincial police office was endorsed by the Toboso municipal police station directing all chiefs of police to coordinate with the local government units in the declaring the CPP-NPA persona non-grata.
The resolution states “the municipality of Toboso, as it continues, to be productive and developed, did right to condemn the illegal and unlawful activities of the CPP-NPA Terrorist (CNT) as it threatens the economic, social and political stability of the municipality and its people.”
“With this resolution declaring the CNTs as persona non grata, CNTs will not be welcomed in the Municipality of Toboso,” it added. (With a report from PNA/PN)
