BACOLOD City – Short talks, short films and short performances on art and music were brought to public awareness by environmental youth groups in Negros Occidental during an event dubbed as “Climate Shorts.”
Youth for Climate Hope, a Negrense environmental group, spearheaded the activity at the Provincial Capitol Social Hall geared towards raising consciousness and public action on the effects of climate change.
Provincial Environment Management officer Wilfred Ramon Peñalosa assured the youth they are never alone in the fight against climate change.
“A decision should be made for climate action, but in order to walk far and to attain bigger results, one should do it with friends,” said Peñalosa.
During the event, young participants were reminded to be mindful of their everyday actions and adhere to rules of Republic Act 8749, or The Clean Air Act.
Short films depicting stories of humanity, nature, pollution, and betrayal to the environment were also shown.
Franz Anthony Alejano of the Association of Young Environmental Journalist highlighted stories of positive change and stories of hope which social media can serve as the best platform to reach out to people.
Krishna Ariola, Linghod executive director, meanwhile spoke about youth activism. She gave honors to environmental group volunteers who strove with passion to fight climate change and promote love for nature.
The initiative was in line with the World Environment Day and Environment Month celebrations with the theme “Beat Air Pollution.” (With a report from PIA/PN)
