Negrense added to Superliga All Stars team

Angel Anne Canino is volleyball’s Most Valuable Player during the recent Palarong Pambansa.

MANILA – De La Salle Zobel’s Angel Anne Canino is the fourth Negrense player to suit up in the Philippine Superliga All-Star Weekend at the Natalio G. Velez Sports and Cultural Center in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

The Bacolod City-native Canino, the Most Valuable Player during the recent Palarong Pambansa, played alongside Philippine Superliga players yesterday (May 18). Today, she plays beginning at 5 p.m.

“Angel is an accomplished player at a young age. She has represented the Negros before, she have also won awards in UAAP and Palarong Pambansa. So she can definitely keep in step with our PSL players,” said event organizer Carmela Gamboa.

Canino, who previously played for Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts, joins fellow Negrenses Marite Espina of Cadiz City and Bacolod City natives Alexa Polidario and Erjane Magdato in the all-star festivity.

Meanwhile, six Negros Occidental-based teams provided additional entertainment yesterday. St. John Institute’s 12 and under girls team battled St. Theresita’s Academy in the first game yesterday at 1:30 p.m. while SJI’s 14 and under girls squad faced Silay City selection at 2:30 p.m.

Living Stones International School, meanwhile, will bring in its under 16 boys team against University of St. La Salle-Bacolod at 1:30 p.m. today, while SJI’s 16 and under girls team will face Pontevedra selection at 2:30 p.m.

“This is an opportunity for the young Negrense volleyball players to show their talents in front of the PSL players,” Gamboa said “I am sure that their games will be as exciting as the PSL All Stars.”/PN
