MANILA – Negrense boxer Roldan Aldea failed to clinch the WBA Asia lightweight championship. He suffered a unanimous decision loss to Ravshanbek Umurzakov of Uzbekistan the other night at RCC Boxing Academy in Ekaterinburg, Russia.
The Kabankalan, Negros Occidental native tried his best to keep in step with Umurzakov despite suffering an early knockdown but still failed to get the judges nod of 91-98, 92-97, 91-98.
Umurzakov was the aggressor since the beginning of the match. He unleashed a flurry of punches after catching Aldea on the ropes. The Filipino fighter was later knocked down by a solid hit by the Uzbek.
Midway in the bout, Aldea was able to connect with his punches, mostly on the head of Umurzakov. The Russian, however, had his response with combinations.
“Sa mga nag-abang sa laban ko, pasensya na po. Natalo po tayo via decision,” Aldea wrote on his Facebook account. “Ginawa ko naman po ang lahat ng aking makakaya pero hindi sumapat.”
With the defeat, the 25-year-old Aldea dropped his record to 14-8-1 win-loss-draw ring record, including eight stoppage wins.
The 26-year-old Umurzakov stretched his unbeaten record of 10-0-0, with seven stoppage wins./PN
