Negrense, Antiqueño jins gather medals in taekwondo contest

MANILA – Three taekwondo centers from Western Visayas harvested medals in the recently held 2021 Smart/MVPSF Visayas CPJ Taekwondo Poomsae and Speed Kicking Championships.

The Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers New Gen reaped 11 medals, including four golds in the said event.

The team’s Leigh Andee Rodriguez was a gold medal awardee in the junior/senior female black free kicking while Julio Miguel Zapata nabbed gold in the junior male black free kicking event.

Jerik Joseph Paiwas finished with a gold medal in the cadet male black poomsae and silver in cadet male black free kick. Ceanne Kyle Rosquillo captured gold in the senior male black poomsae.

Manuel Machado III was a silver medal awardee in the cadet male brown free kicking while settling for a bronze in the cadet male brown poomsae category. Julian Ignatius Sabay, on the other hand, bagged a silver medal in the grade school male brown free kicking. He also received a bronze medal in the grade school poomsae category.

Completing the medalists for NTU-Tiger New Gen were Kenjie Aunzo, who won a silver medal in the cadet junior female brown free kicking, and Arthur Diaz, who seized a bronze in poomsae.

Meanwhile, Crishar Himamaylan Taekwondo Training Center got three bronze medals in the tournament courtesy of Ethan Royce Chavez, Louie Moltalba Olavia, and Rea Jane Reyes in free kicking.

Furthermore, Culasi Antique Taekwondo Gym had a strong showing in the one-day virtual contest as they garnered seven medals, four golds, two silvers, and a bronze.

Delivering gold medals for the Culasi, Antique-based taekwondo stable were Jhon Victor Belo, Yasmine Venise Bajilidad, Ma. Gloria Cristina Polido, and Scott Ashton Demafiles.

Zeny Lyn Buco, meanwhile, bagged a silver medal in free kicking and bronze in poomsae, while Rhianne Macabales has a silver medal in cadet female black A free kicking./PN
