MANILA – Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws maintained its unblemished slate in the V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge by posting a 25-17, 25-16, 23-25, 25-19 triumph over Lyceum Lady Pirates on Wednesday night at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Negrense Kiesha Bedonia continued her fine play for the Lady Tamaraws as she tallied 13 points, including 11 attacks, while Tin Ubaldo dished out 16 excellent sets as they improved to 4-0 record.
The Lady Tamaraws handily defeated the Lady Pirates in the first two sets but Lyceum stayed alive with a third set stunner before FEU re-asserted their might in the fourth set to clinch the victory.
“Kasi nung third set, more on ako naman kasi was trying yung mga second stringers. So para sa ‘kin, good job pa rin naman pinakita nila,” said Lady Tamaraws interim coach Manolo Refugia.”
Janeth Tulang and Johna Dolorito scored 14 points apiece that still proved short for the NCAA Season 98 runner ups Lady Pirates, which slumped to 0-4 win-loss slate for last place.
Meanwhile, Casiey Dongallo caught fire for University of the East Lady Warriors as they defeated University of Perpetual Help Lady Altas, 25-21, 24-26, 24-26, 25-22, 15-12.
Taking over the spot of injured Jelaica Gajero, Dongallo waxed hot with 37 points, all from attacks, as the Lady Warriors recorded its fourth win in as many games to reach the semifinals.
Riza Nogales, meanwhile, anchored the team’s net defense with six blocks as the Lady Warriors, which will continue their campaign against Lyceum of the Philippines U Lady Pirates on Sunday.
“Looking at the positives, nag-step up naman ‘yung mga dapat mag-step up, ‘yung mga naiwan. Happy that we got the win, pero masyadong costly sa ‘min. So, hopefully, maganda ‘yung assessment (with Gajero),” said UE head coach Jerry Yee.
The victory put to naught NCAA Season 98 MVP Mary Rose Dapol’s breakout performance of 23 points, including 21 spikes, as the Lady Altas slipped to 2-2 win-loss record./PN
