MANILA – Bacolodnon Tracey Carlyn Tan showed her wares to capture a crown in the 2022 Philippine Bowling Federation Annuals Championship held on Monday at the E-Lanes Bowling Center, Ortigas Avenue, San Juan City.
The 16-year-old Tan, who is playing out of the Sugar Bowl TenPin Association Inc. (STAI) of Bacolod City, captured the title in the Girls Major Division (16-18 years old) of the tournament.
Tan, a Grade 10 student of St. John’s Institute-Bacolod Falcons, tallied a total 1602 pinfalls in eight games for an average of 200.25 and emerge as champion in the said division.
Paulene Sta. Ana of the TenPin Bowling Association of Makati (TBAM) finished behind Tan with a score of 1452 and Chelsea Santos of the Pasig Bowling Association (PBA) scored 1423 for third place.
According to Tan, she was dedicating her latest championship to her late grandmother Solina Tan, who was also a bowler before and was one of her avid supporters when she was still alive.
“I am dedicating this victory for her because she passed away last year and was not able to see me lift this trophy,” Tan said of Solina, who was dedicated to a bowling tournament in Bacolod City every October.
Prior to her victory here, Tan also competed as a member of the Philippine women’s bowling team in the 21st MWA Asian Junior TenPin Bowling Championship last August 14 to 20 in Bangkok, Thailand.
During the said tournament, Tan placed 13th in the girls singles category behind her fellow Filipinas Antonette Garcia (11th) and Kassandra Yap (12th) and slightly ahead of Julianne Santos (15th).
In the girls singles combined, the Bacolodnon bowler was at 24th place with an average score of 167.17 points, while placing seventh in the girls team of four with Garcia, Normie Rosario and Kysha Agujo.
And in the girls all event, Tan failed to reach the round-of-16. She placed 24th with her average points of 167.Only one Filipina in Grace Ann Hernandez made the cut./PN
