Negrense boxer loses in Papua New Guinea bout

MANILA – Negrense boxer Allan Vallespin suffered a controversial split decision defeat in the hands of Junior Kauko Raka of Papua New Guinea at the St. John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex at Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

It was the third consecutive defeat of the Sipalay City, Negros Occidental native following losses against Yoshimitsu Kimura in February and Musashi Mori in July 2018.

Vallespin, the World Boxing Organization (WBO) No. 11 super featherweight boxer, has been the dominant fighter from the start but was curiously defeated when the scores went out.

Vallespin told Panay News he was stunned with the outcome but is hopeful that the organizer will follow its promise to have his immediate rematch with Raka later this year.

“Talagang hindi ako makapaniwala na talo ako. Pati ‘yung mga nanood doon sa venue gulat sa naging resulta,” Vallespin said. “Hopefully matuloyang rematch namin ngayong taon.”

With the defeat, the 25-year-old Vallespin saw his boxing record drop to 12-5-0 win-loss-draw, including nine stoppage victories./PN
