MANILA – Negrense boxer Reymond Yanong failed to clinch back-to-back wins in less than two weeks after a first round stoppage loss to American Genaro Gamez on Wednesday at The Bubble in MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The Escalante City, Negros Occidental-native welterweight boxer was no match with the American boxer pummeling him to the ropes before flooring him with a right flush to the face and a body shot.

Yanong tried his best to stand up but could not beat the referee’s count prompting the latter to end the match at 2:59 mark of the opening round.

Yanong – being trained and promoted by Ilonggo Aljoe Jaro – was aiming for his second straight triumph following his split decision victory against experienced American Clay Burns in the same venue on June 25.

For Gamez, it was a sweet bounce back following his unanimous decision loss to Luis Feliciano last year at Fantasy Springs Casino at Indio, California for the NABF Super lightweight title.

With the loss, the 26-year-old Yanong saw his record dropped to 11-6-1 win-loss-draw ring record, including nine stoppage wins, while the 24-year-old Gamez improved to 10-1-0 card, with seven knockout wins./PN
