MANILA – Negrense boxer Reymond Yanong cruised past American Clay Burns in their bout at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.
The Escalante City, Negros Occidental-native came out victorious on June 25 (June 26, PH time) by getting the nod of judges Chris Migliorr (58-56) and Julie Lederman (59-55) while Tim Cheatham had 58-56 for Burns.
Yanong struggled in the first two rounds of the bout before connecting a flurry of punches in the succeeding rounds, including a powerful right that rocked the American in the sixth round.
With the victory, the 26-year-old Yanong has improved his record to 11-5-1 win-loss-draw (9 KO) while Burns saw his record drop to 9-8-2 (4 KO).
Yanong now makes it a two in a row victory for the Filipinos amid coronavirus disease 2019 after Mike Plania scored a stunning unanimous decision triump over Joshua Greer nearly two weeks ago.
After Plania and Yanong, two more Filipinos will fight in the bubble. Mark Bernaldez will clash with undefeated Albert Bell on July 2 while Reymart Gaballo will square off with Szilveszter Ajtai on July 17 in Miami, Florida./PN
