MANILA – Negrense boxer John Michael Zulueta will be aiming for the vacant Asian Boxing Federation minimumweight belt when he battles Cris Ganoza tonight at the Gaisano City Mall in Bacolod City.
It will be the Calatrava, Negros Occidental native’s first fight for an international boxing belt after previously winning the Philippine Visayas Professional Boxing Association light flyweight belt.
The title clash will be both important for upstarts Zulueta and Ganoza. Victory will help them boost their boxing rankings. Both fighters were also coming off impressive wins this year.
Zulueta scored a technical knockout win over veteran Bonjun Loperez in February in Bacolod City while Ganoza was coming off a unanimous decision win over Donny Mabao earlier this year in Iligan City.
Heading into the match, the 22-year-old Zulueta will be parading a 7-0-2 win-loss-draw slate, with three stoppage wins, while the 23-year-old Ganoza has 15-1-0 card, including eight knockout wins.
Bago City-native Joepher Montano, meanwhile, will tangle with Jason Nicart in a non-title super lightweight match, while Ernesto Alera will face Marlou Sandoval in the light flyweight division.
