ONE OF Western Visayas’ cacao producers, along with three other processors from the Davao Region, will represent the country in the 2021 International Cocoa Awards (ICA) in Paris, France in October.

Christopher Fadriga’s cacao beans passed the series of evaluation and selection processes conducted during the 2021 Philippine Cacao Quality Awards (PCQA) held in Davao City. The PCQA is a national cacao quality competition to promote high-quality cacao beans and promote the skills and expertise of local farmers of diverse cocoa varieties in the country.

Fadriga, through DTI Negros Occidental Provincial Office, has joined various trainings and seminars on cacao particularly the Cacao and Coffee Conference, Coffee Grading and Classification Seminar, and the Joint Cacao and Coffee Strategic Planning, among others.

“We in DTI-6 are honored with this feat. We have been persistent in extending assistance to our cacao farmers. We want our MSMEs to further improve their skills and products to be competitive, globally,” said regional director Rebecca Rascon.

Aside from cacao farming, Fadriga is engaged in chocolate making through his CL Fadriga Products. He also maintains a nursery in his farm in Bago City, Negros Occidental. (DTI-6/PN)
