MANILA – Negrense guard John Paul Calvo of Columbian Dyip has been ruled out for the rest of the 2019 Honda PBA Commissioner’s Cup and at the early part of PBA Governor’s Cup after sustaining a shoulder injury.
In an interview with Panay News, the Silay City, Negros Occidental native said he sustained a AC joint fracture injury during the Dyip’s game against Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.
“Nabangga ako ni (Painters center Beau) Belga,” Calvo said. “Sinabihan ako na magpahinga ng two months so sa PBA Governor’s Cup sa September na siguro ang balik ko.”
The injury was tough for the former Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights and Hua Siong College of Iloilo guard as he was in the middle of an impressive rookie season for the Columbian.
Calvo was the latest player to be ruled out for the remainder of the conference for the Dyip as big man Jackson Corpuz was also sidelined due to sprained ACL and partial tear of the left meridian meniscus.
The Dyip are currently at the latter part of the standings with 3-7 win-loss slate and chances of making it to the playoffs round slim as they are down to just on elimination round game against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings on Sunday./PN
