Negrense Canino impresses in nat’l women’s volley tryout

MANILA – Angel Canino of De La Salle Zobel Junior Lady Spikers stood out in the expansion tryouts conducted by the Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas, Inc. for the national women’s seniors and U-23 pool recently at the Arellano University gym in Pasay City.

Despite being one of the youngest in the tryout, the Bacolod City native Canino played like a veteran that she caught the attention of national women’s volleyball team mainstays Alyssa Valdez and Ilongga Abigail Marano.

Canino, who led the Junior Lady Spikers in UAAP juniors volleyball championship last December, said that it was a thrilling experience for her to join the veterans in the national team tryouts.

If ever Canino gets chosen, she can be part of the national squad that will participate in major international competitions this year including the Asian U-23 Championships in Hanoi, Vietnam in July and the Southeast Asian Games in November./PN
