MANILA – Biñan Tatak Gel 1-Pacman Partylist Volley Angels rode on the offense of Shane Carmona to defeat San Juan Lady Knights Go For Gold, 25-21, 25-16, 25-15, in the 2024 MPVA season on Tuesday at the Bacoor Strike Gym in Bacoor, Cavite.
The Bago City, Negros Occidental-native Carmona finished with a season-high of 20 points, on 19 attacks and a service ace, as the Volley Angels concluded the first round of eliminations with 5-3 win-loss slate.
According to Carmona, the Volley Angels managed to score the straight set victory over the Lady Knights despite the absence of some of their key players due to their academic commitments.
“I think nag-stay focus lang kami sa game, inisip na lang namin na kahit kulang kami kakayanin namin kasi siyempre lahat naman kami nagko-contribute sa loob ng court eh,” Carmona said.
“Ang palagi lang inuulit sa amin ni coach Dong (dela Cruz) is tiyaga and sipag lang inside the court kasi kung wala ‘yung dalawang ‘yun hindi namin mae-execute ‘yung mga plays namin,” added the Enderun College Lady Titans standout.
The Lady Knights, on the other hand, continued their struggle as they dropped to a 2-5 win-loss slate.
Meanwhile, Rizal St. Gerrard Charity Foundation continued their uprising as they scored a 27-25, 25-22, 25-21 straight-set victory over Caloocan AM Spikers.
Joan Doguna emerged as Player of the Game after tallying 18 points, all coming from attacks, as Rizal improved to a 5-1 win-loss slate. The AM Spikers dropped to 2-5.
Bacoor City Lady Strikers, on the other hand, swept Marikina Lady Shoemasters, 25-11, 25-10, 25-15, to hike their record to 6-1, while Marikina suffered their six defeat in as many games.
