MANILA – After becoming one of the four players to be cut as part of the revamp at the De La Salle University Green Archers’ camp, Negrense guard Miggy Corteza has found his way to the College of St. Benilde Blazers in the NCAA.
The Silay City, Negros Occidental native Corteza said he was offered by the Green Archers management to transfer to the Blazers due to the entry of DLSU’s new recruits who were playing in the same position as him.
“I am going to the College of St. Benilde Blazers,” Corteza said. “I was offered if I want to stay with DLSU but my opportunity to play will be limited or I will transfer to other schools who can utilize me.”
Corteza admitted that moving to Jose Rizal University Heavy Bombers, which is being handled by former DLSU mentor Louie Gonzales, and University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers of another ex-DLSU coach Aldin Ayo, crossed his mind but he chose CSB.
“I have considered that but after careful thinking I chose CSB. I am at home na rin with the Blazers,” said Corteza, who was recruited by Ayo to the Green Archers two years ago.
Corteza, a former standout of Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts, made his Green Archers debut in UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball but only appeared in nine matches.
Aside from Corteza, others dismissed by newly-appointed Green Archers mentor Jermaine Byrd were Filipino-Australian Aaron Waban, Jollo Go and Mark Dyke, who is also transferring to the Blazers./PN
