MANILA – Negrense hitter Joan Doguna got a jittery debut for the Lyceum of the Philippines Lady Pirates in their straight set loss to University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses in the Premier Volleyball League on Aug. 18 at the San Juan Arena.
Despite experiencing nerves, the Bacolod City native still submitted impressive numbers of four points, six excellent digs and seven excellent receptions.
Doguna admitted to Panay News it was a subpar showing for her but she was still thankful to the trust given her by Lady Pirates head coach Emil Lontoc. She was made to start in each three sets.
“Medyo off po ang laro ko. May halong kaba,” said Doguna, who previously played for Living Stones International School, Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts and STI-West Negros University.
“I am thankful sa tiwala sa akin but I must admit madami pang kailangang pagsikapan,” she added. “It is a blessing in disguise na din siguro na pre-season pa lang, at least I can still adjust for the NCAA season.”
Another Bacolodnon who made her debut for the Lady Pirates was Elidel Rofe Amar, who came off the bench to score two points.
Three other Negrense volleybelles are in the Lady Pirates roster – Princess Excija, Jessa Corsame and Jewel Maligmat – but they were not activated for the Golden Tigresses match./PN
