NEGRENSE boxer Sonny Boy Jaro will challenge Thai boxer Nawaphon Kaikanha for the latter’s WBC Asia Boxing Council bantamweight belt on May 18 at the Workpoint Studio in Bang Phun, Thailand.
The championship match is important for the Silay City, Negros Occidental native as he aims to have another shot at a world championship before he finally hangs his boxing gloves.
Jaro previously held a world championship when he defeated Thai boxer Pongsaklek Wonjongcam to capture the WBC world flyweight belt but lost it in his defense against Toshiyuki Igarashi.
Jaro was also a former holder of international boxing titles—WBC International super flyweight title, ABF bantamweight belt, IBF Pan Pacific light flyweight belt and OPBF light flyweight belt.
Jaro made a successful boxing return earlier this year from over a year of inactivity when he scored an impressive technical knockout victory on Indonesian Boido Simanjuntak.
The 37-year-old Jaro will be entering the ring with 45-14-5 win-loss-draw boxing record, including 32 stoppage wins, while Kaikanha has 44-1-1 card, with 34 wins by way of knockout./PN
