MANILA – Three gold medals were bagged by the Negrense jins during the 2020 SMART/MVP Sports Foundation/PLDT Home Ultera National CPJ (Carlos Palanca Jr.) taekwondo championships at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City over the weekend.
Leigh Andee Rodriguez spearheaded the gold medal haul for the Negros Taekwondo Union-Tigers New Gen after ruling the junior women’s finweight category.
Beatriz Zapata also notched her first national gold medal in the grade school division of the individual poomsae.
Dims Diaz, on the other hand, earned his first gold medal in the national tourney out of the freestyle poomsae event.
Meanwhile, the stable of Iloilo A. Diasnes Gym won a bronze medal in the event via Adriano Horlador III in the senior men’s flyweight category of kyorugi.
Elizabeth Marie Borres, ranked sixth among 31 players in the cadet female kyorugi, Clarence Jotham Gancero and Lawrence Marasigan also competed in the elimination round.
The two-day taekwondo event, which was deemed exclusive for the Philippine Taekwondo Association (PTA) black belters, were sponsored by PLDT, Meralco, Philippine Sports Commission, Philippine Olympic Committee, Milo and Inspire Sports Academy./PN
