MANILA – Negrense boxer Roldan Aldea retained the Philippine Games and Amusements Board lightweight title by defeating Monico Laurente at The Flash Grand Ballroom of the Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque City.
The Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental native made his presence felt early on Saturday night. He pummeled Laurente with multiple punches in the first two rounds before the latter decided not to fight just before the start of the third round.
This was the second successful title defense of the 25-year-old Aldea. He also put himself back on the winning track after suffering a unanimous decision loss to Russian Ravshanbek Umurzakov last year.
With the victory, Aldea improved his boxing record to 15-8-1 win-loss-draw while also notching his ninth stoppage win.
Laurente saw his slate drop to 30-17-0, with seven knockout wins.
In the co-main event, Negrense boxer Carlos Ceasar Penalosa failed to clinch the vacant PGAB flyweight championship. He match with Alphoe Dagayloan ended in majority draw.
Peñalosa, who hailed from San Carlos City, tried his best to outhustle and dominate Dagayloan but the latter countered with punches.
Two of the judges saw the match as a tie.
With the outcome, Peñalosa saw his boxing record improve to 14-2-1 win-loss-draw, with seven knockout victories, while Dagayloan’s slate now stands at 14-3-6, with five stoppage wins./PN
