Negrense lady spiker gets in DLSU

IN THE thick of its campaign in the UAAP Season 80, De La Salle University Lady Spikers was already starting to make moves for the next season.

One step the two-time women’s volleyball defending champion took was securing the commitment of Living Stones International School star Marite Espina.

Living Stones head coach Michael Larroza told Panay News the Cadiz City, Negros Occidental native will move to Lady Spikers at the end of their campaign in the Brothers’ Cup volleyball tournament.

“She will be moving to DLSU after this tournament,” Larroza said. “Actually last year pa siya gustong ma-recruit ni (Lady Spikers head coach) Ramil (de Jesus) because he saw her play here in Bacolod.”

The 19-year-old Espina said she is very excited to move to Lady Spikers and looks forward to improve her skills further under the guidance of de Jesus.

“DLSU has been my dream school ever since so I am very excited to play for them,” Espina said. “I am glad din that my parents gave their blessing for me to play for Lady Spikers.”

“I must admit my volleyball skills are not that flawless so I am looking forward to improve under coach Ramil,” she added. “Aside from my volleyball career, my move to DLSU will also be beneficial for me academic-wise.”

Espina will be the third player of Larroza to move to Manila after his daughter Princess Maicah Larroza and Jessa Ordiales, who are part of the National University Lady Bullpups./PN
